ANNOUNCES CONTEST TO NAME NEW FOOD SHACK
Winner to be announced at July 1 opening
The Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation (ECHDC) today
announced a contest to name the new food shack that will debut on
the Central Wharf on Friday, July 1. The venue, a first for the
Central Wharf, will offer breakfast, lunch and dinner. The winner
will have the honor of contributing to the ongoing improvement of
Buffalo’s waterfront and will be asked to participate in the opening
press conference.
“When we opened our doors last winter and asked the public what they
wanted to see on the waterfront, food was one of the top three
items, along with improved access and authentic experiences,” said
ECHDC President Thomas P. Dee. “The new food shack is a sign that we
are listening and are committed to providing a waterfront that can
be enjoyed by all. Reaching out to the public for the name came
naturally, given the many creative ideas that the public has already
contributed.”
The contest begins today and submissions will be accepted through
Wednesday, June 29 at 5 p.m. Members of the “Summer 2011” citizen’s
advisory panel will choose the winning submission, which will then
become the official name of the new dining location.
To participate, submit the name suggestion, along with your name,
address and phone number to
eriecanalharbor@esd.ny.gov with the words “Name Contest”
in the subject line. One entry per person, but each person can make
several suggestions. Multiple members of a household may submit
separate entries. Any submission and/or suggested name shall become
the property of ECHDC.
Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation is a subsidiary agency of
Empire State Development Corporation whose vision is to revitalize
Western New York’s waterfront and restore economic growth to Buffalo
based on the region’s legacy of pride, urban significance and
natural beauty.
